[Excerpt from The jumping frog of Calaveras County]. [ca. 1950]

Autograph fair copy of 14 measures from Scene 1 with a few corrections, written on lined music paper, roughly corresponding to measures 3-15 on p. 56 and measure 1 on p. 57 in the printed vocal score (New York : Carl Fischer, 1951). Music is preceded by a note to "Hans" [Heinsheimer, Foss' publisher], indicating that Foss wanted this music added to a scene that was originally written without music. The music is followed by an additional note to "Helmuth" [Wolfes, conductor with whom Foss worked], asking Wolfes to insert this music into the full score; it is signed "Fondly and gratefully, Lukas." Score includes additions, indications for instrumentation, and dynamic markings in pencil.
